Image Store User Guide

What is the Image Store service?

The Image Store is fully integrated into the Registration System. It allows your registered members to upload images and photos for their profiles and signatures. The Image Store also has a special folder for administrators. This folder is available for administrators to upload any images they want e.g. personalised emoticons/topicons to use in forum boards.

Why your registered members will like it

When someone registers with you they have the option to create a public profile (unless you have configured the 'Registration System' not to use profiles). This profile is displayed in a number of locations such as the members directory and with forum messages. When creating their profile they can supply two images: a photo or image (avatar) which represents them visually and also an image to attach as a signature to any messages that they might post in a forum board

Below is a screen shot of the form that members use to edit/create their profile. We've circled where they can supply the photo or images described above:

The Image Store allows your members to upload their profile images onto our servers. If they are unable to upload their images, then they have to find somewhere else on the internet to store their images. As a result most people either don't bother with profile images or they try incorrectly to enter the location on their PC where the image is stored. Therefore the Image Store allows you to have an upload link on the profile/registration forms:

How to use the Image Store

Its very simple:

  1. Determine which images your members can upload and any limitations on the size of images that can be uploaded
  2. Go to the 'Image Store' | 'Configure' page and enter the requirements in the simple form provided:

  3. That's it. Now the registration/profile forms will now contain an upload link. There is nothing else to do.

Uploading your own images into the store

You shouldn't think of the Image Store as being a place to store your family photos (although there is nothing to stop you doing this). Instead it should be used for the adminstrator to store images that they want to use with the PoppyDog tools.

Storing emoticons/topicons

With the forum boards instead of using PoppyDog's default graphics you can provide your own and the Image Store provides a location where you can store them. For example, lets say that you want to use your own emoticon in the forum boards. To achieve this follow these steps:

  1. Go to the 'Image Store' | 'Image Browser' page and click the 'Upload Image' button. On the upload image page you can upload your emoticon images (from your computer):

  2. On the 'Image Store' | 'Image Browser' page you will see all the emoticons that you've just uploaded together with the urls for the images. You should make a note of the urls for the images:

  3. To use these images in your forum boards, go to the 'ForumBoard Builder' | 'Icons/Images' page. On this page you will see the list of emoticons currently used in your forum boards. To use your uploaded emoticons instead simply enter the urls of your uploaded emoticons in the boxes provided:
