How to secure your web tools and block access to abusive users.

At present there three ways to secure your tools and web pages from unwanted visitors:

  1. Force your visitors to register before using your tools e.g. before being able to post messages in a forum etc. If you do this then your visitors can be uniquely identified by their username whenever they log on. This gives you the power to block access to your web pages by unwanted visitors. Specifically you can
    • Block by email address
    • Block by username
    • Block/Delete membership
  2. Block by IP address

Below we describe the general way by which you may Block by email address, username or IP address. All the following features can be accessed on the 'Members Area' | 'User Management' control panel. You will also find that you can do the following in other places such as when you are Moderating a Forum Board.

Block by email address

When you block by email address, all usernames registered with that email address will be unable to log on to your tools (hence unable to post messages etc).

How do I block users by email address?

In your Members Area click the User Management button and look for the Block by Email field on this page. Enter the email address that you wish to block (or unblock) and click Block (or Unblock).

Block by username

Block by username means that the user with that username will not be able to log on to your tools (hence unable to post messages etc). Note however that they can of course register again and then log on with the new username.

How do I block users by username?

In your Members Area click the User Management button and look for the Block by Username field on this page. Enter the Username that you wish to block (or unblock) and click Block (or Unblock).

Block/Delete membership

Block membership is exactly the same as block by username. It means that a users membership is blocked so that they will not be able to log on to your tools (hence unable to post messages etc). They will not be able to log on again until you 'Unblock' the membership. 'Delete Membership' permanently deletes the membership account.

How do I block membership?

In your Members Area click the Registration System link. Click on the User Profiles or Business Profiles button to browse through the details of your registered users. As you browse through these details you will see that there is a button labeled 'Block Membership' under each Username. Click on the respective button for the Username you want to block (or unblock).

Block by IP address

You can no longer block IP addresses. Find out why here:
