Creating an Image Hyperlink

This is very similar to creating a Text Hyperlink. The difference is that you first need to insert your image into your web page. On the 'Hyperlink URL' page we give some images that you might like to use, they look like buttons. You can of course use your own image if you prefer. For this example we have decided to use the image that looks like a black button. You need to take two pieces of information from the 'Hyperlink URL' page. These are circled below:

  1. Determine where on your web page you want to put the image.
  2. Now you need to insert the image into your web page. On the menu bar of your editor there will be an 'Insert' menu. When you click on this you will see that you can choose to insert something like an 'Image' or a 'Picture' (two examples of what might appear are illustrated below). Click where it says 'Image' or 'Picture'

  3. A dialog box will now appear similar to that shown below. Somewhere on the dialog box there will be a text input field in which you are required to type in a URL. The required URL is the URL of the image you want to insert into your web page.

Here you must type in the Image URL exactly as given on the 'Hyperlink URL' page:

  4. Click 'OK' and the dialog box closes. You will now find that the image has been inserted into your web page. Note that if you are not connected to the internet then the image will not appear. Instead there will be some kind of marker to indicate that an image goes there (see below):

  5. Now that you have inserted your image, you need to turn it into a Hyperlink. Select the image by hovering over it with mouse and then click the right mouse button. A menu will appear similar to that illustrated below. Somewhere on the menu it will say 'Hyperlink' or 'Link' or 'Make Link' (depends on the editor). Basically if you see the word 'link' somewhere it will probably mean create a Hyperlink which is what you want to do so click it!

  6. A dialog box will now appear similar to that shown below. Somewhere on the dialog box there will be a text input field in which you are required to type in a URL (in the illustration this is circled in red).

Here you must type in the URL exactly as given on the 'Hyperlink URL' page:

  7. Click 'OK' and the dialog box closes. That's it, you've created the Image Hyperlink! When your web page is displayed in a browser and someone clicks on the image you've just inserted, they will be taken to your Password Protector tool.

You now know two different ways to put a PoppyDog tool into your web site.
